Strolling Through Zanadu
In praise of Mick and Mick. by Mark Rothman
Here at the Greatcroft Commuinity Centre, it is no easy task to express our appreciation of their artistry: their combination of traditional Irish ballads and folk-songs, finely played and sung in harmony of banjo and guitar and distinctive humor create that inimitable atmosphere of "craic" and "ceilidh" so characteristic of the Emerald Isle.
At our St Valentine's party, they played requests for (among others) the Jewish favourite at Barmizvahs and weddings, "Hava Na Guilah", vivaciously danced by Anita, Joan, Joyce, Michael and several others, and an arousing Scottish "Cameron Loch", and a dramatic Spanish "Paso Doble" enhanced by a credible flamenco dance by Joan
fittingly clad in a long, black dress and red rose adorning her hair, and meriting an enthusiastic "olé"!
Praise too for Mick's many jokes, seemingly casual but originally styled and revealing a true comedian's touch.
